Quartz. Amazing and talented live artist, lover of Star Wars, Star Trek and other geeky things; and his sidekick…erm Manager, DupliCat.

Hello Roxeter Readers!

Recently I got a chance to sit down with the amazing live musician Quartz, and his awesome manager/partner Duplicat. After having attended one of his live acoustic performances, I quickly joined the hoard of others and became one of his biggest fans.

Quartz describes his music as “Rock” and when asked what inspired, him he said “I’m pretty ‘One day at a time’, so I’d say my mood in the moment inspires me.” He enjoys an “easy does it, one day at a time” philosophy for life and so far, it seems to be working out for him.

In reference to the songs in his performances, he went on to say that he “sings them from an honest point of view instead of just creating a carbon copy.” Quartz seems like a very genuine artist and he says “If I’m not being genuine to myself, people would hear it in what I do.”

Quartz - Canadian On Top of the WorldThe life of a live performer can be rough though, but Quartz has his manager/partner Duplicat to help him through it all. “Q is a rock,” Duplicat said. “I do get frustrated when I see things that happen to Q, just more in regard to the plateaus.” With the ups and downs though, Quartz does what he can to provide all of Second Life with amazing live music. “But all in all, SL has been very good to Q. The venues are amazing–the owners, the managers, and the hosts. And the other artists here. OMG! They are so amazing. Everyone Q works for, works with and plays with are amazing. We are so grateful.”

Duplicat warned me before the interview that she had the gift of gab. But her words I feel sum it up and express how truly an amazing artist and his manager can feel about Second Life and the live music scene. They love their friends and want everyone to know that they love them, even though they keep a low profile. Duplicat went on to say “We care very much for all the people in our lives and just because we’re not in constant communication with them, doesn’t mean we don’t care.”

They send their thanks to Vivienne, Freya, and myself for sitting down with them. Though honestly, its me who thanks them for allowing me a few moments of their time for a candid interview; and a look into the talented, genuine artist that is Quartz. If you have not heard him; you definitely should. His schedule can be found here:  Quartz’s Schedule

You can follow Quartz on Facebook.

March events are warming things up in Roxeter!

We have a calendar on our website and Freya has been busy lining up live music and comedy for March and beyond. Check it out on our website calendar! Check the calendar often for new events as they are added.

Thanks Freya! She has scored one very popular second life musician for four performances running into June! Kudos!

It looks like things are warming up in Roxeter, no matter what the weather in real life might be doing!

Introducing our Librarian!

Ercila Robbins is our Chief Librarian at Roxeter. I have known Ercila for a few years in Second Life. She is lively, adventurous, wickedly smart, and above all friendly. She has a knack for making attractive avatars and low prim decorating! I asked Ercila to introduce herself.

“Hi! I’m Ercila Robbins and I LOVE books! I was delighted when Vivienne allowed me to be the librarian at Roxeter.

“I have a BA in English and a JD. I am an author, poet, former journalist, and I have taught writing classes as an adjunct professor at my community college.

“I have been with Second Life well over eight years and I have enjoyed every minute of it. (Well, maybe not those minutes spent in heavy griefing.) I have made a lot of friends and have participated in literature discussions, writing sessions, and open mic poetry and reading sessions.

“If you have a group looking for a change of pace, a venue to host readings and book discussions, or just a place to hang out and enjoy the wonderful creative space of Second Life, come to The Roxeter Public Library. And if you want a quiet place to work on your award-winning novel, we have plenty of room to sit and write.

Enjoy your stay and be creative.”

Introducing our Live Entertainment Manager!

Freya For Roxeter

Freya Lovenkraft has taken up the challenge and position of our Live Entertainment Manager at Roxeter. She has given our beach concert stage a name, Zephyr Point Performance Center. I asked Freya to do a write up to introduce herself.

“Hello all! I’m Freya (aka freyaschild.lovenkraft). I have been in and out, ‘round and about Second Life for over seven years. I am a real life lover of the arts in a variety of forms, especially music. As a long time member of the SL community I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to give back.

“When I first came to Second Life I was in awe of all the possibilities that it held. Like a lot of people, I found a variety of outlets and support for different interests. People come to Second Life for a lot of reasons, but it’s the live entertainment and entertainers that has kept me coming back.

Snapshot_001“Hardly a day goes by that I am not inspired and moved by one of Second Life’s talented performers, and maybe even a little envious! I can only WISH I were that talented. I’m struck by the level of talent as well as their level of courage! We should all count ourselves as lucky that Live Entertainment is going strong here in Second Life.

“So the morning I saw the notice about Roxeter looking for someone to help out with their dynamic venture of promoting and facilitating Live Entertainment, of course I was interested! I like the goal we’re setting forth – have fun, promote fun, praise fun. Fun. Enjoy your Second Life. I was attracted to the concept right away.

“Feel free to contact me with suggestions or booking information. We have big plans for March, I simply cannot WAIT to get started! It will be an honor to help promote and celebrate these brave and accomplished individuals, I can only hope I do them justice.

Our gallery has a curator and a name!

curator pic_red 1024Shakti Adored, artist in real life and well experienced gallery curator in Second Life, has taken on the position of Gallery Curator in Roxeter. She has named the gallery “Roxeter Place for the Visual Arts.”

I asked Ms. Adored to write up a an introduction of herself for the blog.

“Hello, I’m Shakti Adored, formerly angel Kingmaker of Angelwood Bay Arts Center.

“I have three years experience in the Second Life art world as an artist, curator and art broker. I have been inspired by galleries and communities such as The Rose Gallery of Angel Manor, the East River art village at Helvellyn, Alanis Gallery and Avalon Town, as well as countless artists I have met over the years.

“I have been owner and curator of four galleries before coming to Roxeter Place for the Visual Arts. All were my own until now. I loved the work and gave all I had.

“What I learned is that it takes a team. I longed to collaborate with other supporters of the arts. And so I look forward excitedly to be part of the Roxeter sim projects.

“Promoting and sharing art is my life. I am available often to assist and answer questions. I look forward to sharing a great deal of art and culture with patrons of Roxeter and residents of Second Life.

“The first show at Roxeter Place is planned to open the beginning of March. Its theme is “The Ides of March.”
It will be followed by a “Spring Fling” in April to May, and then we will settle in for some “Summer Fun” in June.

Yours truly,
Shakti Adored”

We are very excited about Shakti’s arrival in Roxeter and can’t wait to see her first gallery opening!

Name the Park

The park is home to a small, intimate performance stage for live music performers, comedians, and inspirational speakers in Second Life. On either side are game tables–Greedy, Cards Against Humanity, Hearts, Bop (Milleborne), and a Risk type of game. All games are free to play and do not offer a monetary prize. We need a name for the park!

Name the Beach Venue

I am calling on all those interested in arts and culture in Second Life to help us choose a name for the Beach venue. It is more like a concert stage than it is a club, but dance animation balls have been provided. Some single player games (mahjong, pinball, hangman, and Mastermind) have been added on the perimeter. The beach venue has an elaborate lighting and special effects system (including a fog machine) controllable from an elevated booth. The intent of this venue is to host live performances of musicians in Second Life. It also has a DJ booth to host special event parties and celebrations, but it is not intended to be yet another club in Second Life.
